HOUSTON, Texas – A 6-year-old girl, left behind a car with her one-year-old brother, reportedly killed him, according to KTRK.
Now their father is facing charges.
Adrian Dreshaun Middleton, 26, took the two children with him when he went shopping on May 20.
Before going to a store to buy clothes, he made sure the air conditioner worked, put together a movie that kids could watch, and offered them snacks.
After browsing the Family Thrift Store, he returned to the car to find a horrible show.
The 6-year-old girl told the police that she had just stopped playing with her pain when he started crying. That's when she got angry and tied her to the waist, reports KTRK.
She thought that he had fallen asleep.
Middleton returned to find his daughter crying, police reported. The girl told her father that she had to use the bathroom and that she had done something wrong.
When his son did not answer, the father called 911 and tried CPR until an ambulance arrived at the scene.
The child of one year was taken to the hospital, but he did not survive.
According to court documents, Middleton reportedly told the police that the children were tied in their car seat during the 30- to 45-minute drive in the store. He said that he had checked the children through the shop window.
According to KTRK, the police told a different story, reporting that there was no car seat and that the video surveillance puts the trip at about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Police say that he never checked his children.
The results of the autopsy revealed that the baby's death was a homicide by strangulation.
Middleton is excused for abandoning a child. The girl will not be prosecuted because she is only 6 years old,
