After trading against Jimmy Butler, the Sixers lack depth.
With a report that the Wizards are selling, which players could the Sixers consider buying?
We are looking at five actors who could make sense.
Bradley Beal
On Monday, we looked at what might be needed to get Beal and what the financial implications would be. (see the story).
Regarding the player, I see no reason not to make a phone call. Beal is a star player who, despite his difficulties this season, has revealed himself to be an elite shooter (39% out of three in career). He is also more than capable of creating his own shot.
A starting lineup of Beal, Butler, JJ Redick, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid would be a problem. Of course, the move would seriously affect the depth of the Sixers, but it's nothing that some other trades and / or buyouts can not fix.
Markieff Morris
Who better to provide the "Philly Tough" Brett Brown is talking about a tough Philly guy?
Morris will play an uncompromising defense and should provide a spark on the four-seater bench. He is not a bad offensive player either. Although the three-point shots are far from his specialty, he has been close to the league average in the past three seasons at 36%.
Acquiring Morris to play back four against Wilson Chandler would allow Mike Muscala to be the main backup of the five. Given Amir Johnson's difficulties this season, I would be ready for Muscala to take on this role.
Kelly Oubre Jr.
Oubre seems to be a popular name among fans. At 6 feet 9 inches with long arms and tons of athleticism, it would be perfect for the Sixers in defense. The team has changed for a heavy program in change this season and Oubre is the type of athlete needed for that.
I'm worried for him on the offensive side. He has shot just 28% of his three goals this season and is only a three point shooter at 32% of his career. It has some ability to slasher but not enough to compensate. Since he is only 22 years old and he was a first-round pick, it would probably cost more than Morris too.
Jeff Green
Green seems to be the product of its environment. Last year with the Cavs, he was too busy and struggling. At the beginning of this season, the Wizards got off to a bad start, as did Green.
While Washington has united its two victories, Green's game has resumed. In his last six games, he has averaged 12 points and a 47% lead over all three. Like Oubre, it offers the length and athleticism that the Sixers do defensively.
If you can live with its infuriating incoherence on the offensive, I guess you could do worse at a low price … but it would not be my first choice.
Tomas Satoransky
With the addition of Austin Rivers, Satoransky has seen his role reduced. Last season, it was Satoransky who played admirably in front of injured John Wall. As leader of the Spanish league, Satoransky has turned out to be a powerful facilitator and shooter when he was called.
You will sacrifice something in defense with him on the ground. It has a decent length but lacks athleticism. Adding Satoransky would be a bit like adding a more sophisticated version of Furkan Korkmaz, which may be just a slight update.
