Students from the Carrboro Elementary School were loaded into buses for the short ride to the Town Hall, while police and deputy ministers completed the search for one. possible "active shooter" on campus.
An investigator from the Orange County Sheriff's Office said around 12:30. that no one was found during the search.
The call arrived at the police after 11 am Tuesday. Police officers from the Carrboro and Chapel Hill Police Departments and the Sheriff's Office cleaned the halls and classrooms as they made their way through the school.
At approximately 12:15 pm, officers allegedly took students to the gym. The President of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board, Rani Dasi, wrote on Facebook that the students were safe. The police had reported finding no suspects.
"Everyone is safe and responsible, including our sophomores who participated in the walking tour this morning," said Dasi. "Once we are released, we will remain locked out until the end of the day."

The school system issued a press release soon after, saying the Carrboro police "are on site and the situation is under control."
"We can not release the students for the moment. Please, do not come to school, "said Jillian LaSerna, principal of Carrboro Elementary School, in the release.
"Parents can take [their students] By following the usual protocol at the time, students can stay in school for the rest of the day, "LaSerna said. "I will call you back with an update as soon as I have more information. Thank you for your collaboration."
Parents were asked to park and wait at Carrboro City Hall until the police decided that it was safe to bring their children. The school and neighboring Carrboro United Methodist Child Care are locked out, they said in a Twitter message.

The incident is ongoing. The superintendent of schools in the city, Pamela Baldwin, was on site with officers.

"Carrboro elementary policing action: a call from an active shooter. NOT justified but all hands are on the bridge at school. The police recommend staying away – not much space in the street, "she said.
