Police released the name of a woman killed during a shootout at a St. Louis County Catholic supply store and provided a more detailed description of the suspect.

Jamie Schmidt, 53, of House Springs, Missouri, died in a hospital in the area after being hit by a bullet around 3:20 pm Monday at the store located at 14069 Manchester Road in Ballwin, Mo. A woman was also sexually assaulted at the store, police said.

Police say the suspect is a white man, measuring between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches and 40 to 50 years old. He wore a navy blue work jacket, a red, white and black plaid shirt, glasses, a brown belt with a red and blue square on the clasp or belt clip and a hat.

Investigators published a picture of a similar hat and jacket. They say the hat is called an ivy hat, an Irish hat, a newsboy hat or a flat hat.

Police said that the man should be considered armed and dangerous. The St. Louis County police continued to search the suspect on Tuesday.

Anyone with information can contact the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-8477. Police said no information was too small.

Around 3:19 pm Monday, police were sent to the store to gather information on a shootout, a press release from the St. Louis County Police Department said.

Dan Stutte, president of Catholic Supply, issued a statement about the shooting on Monday night.

"We are shocked and saddened by the events that took place on Monday afternoon at our West County site," Stutte said in a statement. "It was a senseless tragedy. Please, join us as we pray for the victims and their families. "

Stutte said Catholic Supply would close all retail stores Tuesday following the incident. The stores will reopen on Wednesday.

"We are cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation and we will share details as appropriate," said Stutte. "We appreciate your patience, your grace and your prayers during this difficult time."
