Jimenez was killed in an exchange of gunfire Monday afternoon at Mercy Hospital. He was trying to prevent a mad man from killing more people.
The 28-year-old, who has just become a full-fledged police officer, is hailed as a hero.
Before becoming officer Jimenez, the residents of Edison Park knew him as a hardworking boy who dreamed. Jimenez was a student-athlete and choir member at Foreman High School, now known as Foreman College and Career Academy, in Portage Park, Chicago. He graduated in 2009.

Years ago, Jimenez was working at Moretti's restaurant in the Edison Park neighborhood.
"When he was here, he was always looking to improve what he could do himself," recalls Karen Kissane, Moretti's director. "He went to school, he had a plan, a goal, he wanted to do something, he wanted to do it and he did it."
At the same time, a number of groups, including gun control advocates, plan to gather at the Federal Plaza de Loop to hold a candlelight vigil at 6 pm for the victims of the shooting. They demand the end of the bloodshed.
