The Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has registered 13 new cases of Ebola in its update today, but the number of suspected cases still under investigation has dropped from 71 to 48. .

The total number of outbreaks is now 386 (339 confirmed, 47 probable), including 219 deaths. So far, 113 people have recovered from their infections, the Ministry of Health announced.

The new cases include 7 in Katwa, 2 in Beni, 2 in Kalunguta and 1 in Oicha and Mutwanga, all villages and towns in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri in the DRC.

The epidemic, which began this summer, is the largest in the DRC. It is poised to overtake the second largest Ebola outbreak in the world, which occurred in Uganda in 2000 and recorded 425 cases and 224 deaths.

Last week, officials from the World Health Organization estimated that the current outbreak could last at least another six months.

5 infected family members

Five of Katwa's new cases were family members of a confirmed patient who died earlier this month. According to the Ministry of Health, the family refused vaccination and follow-up before agreeing to be treated in a Butembo Ebola treatment center.

The unique cases of Oicha and Mutwanga are linked to Beni cases, officials said.

In a positive note, the DRC said that the small group of cases in Kanyihunga village, located in a Mayi-Mayi-controlled red zone, is under control.

"It has been six days since no case was reported in this village." A total of 360 contacts were recorded in the village, of which 16 left the 21-day follow-up on Tuesday, November 20th. and 172 will be on follow-up Friday, November 23, "said health officials from the DRC. Other contacts will complete the follow up on December 5th.

Immunization efforts have now reached more than 33,000 people, according to the DRC, including 16,395 vaccinated people living in Beni.
