Miami-based wide net receiver Jeff Thomas is no longer part of the program, the team said on Wednesday afternoon.
Thomas did not train on Tuesday and Wednesday, and a spokesman for the team told reporters that the sophomore had stayed at the club but was away for personal reasons. Head Coach Mark Richt then issued a statement confirming that Thomas would not return to the Hurricanes.
"We have high standards of excellence, leadership and team commitment for all the young men who wear our uniform, and we will not stray from those standards," he said. Richt in a statement. "We wish Jeff the best of success as he moves forward on his journey."
Thomas leads Miami with 35 receptions for 563 yards with three touchdowns. He was beaten early Saturday's match against Virginia Tech, apparently due to problems off the field.
