Everyone – OK, many people – the favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner is dessert. And the most popular dishes are not always the most whimsical, but homemade ones. Here are five Thanksgiving dessert recipes that can be prepared in an hour or less, and will earn more brownie points than store-bought candies.
Simple pumpkin pie
Time: One hour, including 10 minutes of preparation and 50 minutes of cooking, via Allrecipes.com.
ingredients:
- 1 can of pumpkin puree (16 oz)
- 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
- 2 eggs
- 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
- 1 uncooked pie crust
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl, combine pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, eggs and sweetened condensed milk until well blended. Put the pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate and pour the mixture until it reaches almost the top of the crust. Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. Reduce oven heat to 350 degrees and cook another 35 to 40 minutes until filling is complete.
Cranberry shoemaker

ingredients:
- 1 1/4 cup cranberries, partially thawed if frozen
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and extra for the pan
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup and 2 tablespoons sugar, separate
- 1 cup all purpose flour (spoon and leveled)
- 1 1/4 teaspoons of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spread the butter on a 10-inch cast iron skillet. Gently mix the cranberries and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Whisk the flour, baking powder, salt and 3/4 cup sugar in a large bowl. Beat the milk and the egg, then the butter in a small bowl. Whisk both mixtures together. Pour the dough into the pan and sprinkle with cranberries. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the center comes back into place when it is touched. Cool before serving.
Pecan pie rugelach
Forty-five minutes, including 15 minutes of preparation, via Pillsbury.
ingredients:
- 1 Pillsbury chilled pastry dough, softened as indicated on the box
- 1/2 cup chopped and roasted pecans
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar packed
- 1 tablespoon crystallized sugar
- 1 egg slightly beaten
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cover a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Unroll the pie crust on a surface. Mix the cream cheese, cinnamon and brown sugar in a medium bowl. Spread mixture over crust leaving 1/4 inch on edges. Drop the pecans on top and squeeze them lightly into the crust. Cut the dough into 16 points and roll them starting at the widest sides. Place them on the cookie sheet and brush the egg mixture with the pastries. Sprinkle them with crystallized sugar. Bake the pastries for 25 to 30 minutes until they are golden brown. Remove them immediately from the cookie sheet to allow them to cool.
Pumpkin cheesecake without cooking

ingredients:
- 1 cup pure pumpkin puree
- 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
- 10 Graham cookies, crumbled to pieces
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1 large tub (12 ounces) of Cool Whip
Instructions:
Crush the graham crackers and mix them with the butter, then squeeze it to the bottom of the jars or serving glasses. Use a blender to blend cream cheese until smooth, then add pure pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla extract and sugar , until it is unctuous. Add half of the Cool Whip and stir gently. Use a spoon to place a layer of pumpkin cheesecake mixture in each jar or serving glass, then cover with whipped cream.
Oreo turkeys without cooking
In 20 minutes, including 5 minutes of preparation, via Delish.
ingredients:
- 20 oréos
- 40 sweet eyes
- 20 butterscotch chips
- 1 cup of candy
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
- 1/2 cup of white chocolate chips
- red food coloring
Instructions:
Put the white chocolate, coconut oil and a few drops of red food coloring into a bowl and microwave for 30 seconds, until it is melted. Pour the melted chocolate into a small zipper bag and make a small hole on the edge. Squeeze a few drops of melted chocolate into the back of the candy eyes and place two on each oreo. Repeat with the butterscotch chips, placing one on each Oreo as a spout. Draw a red line next to the beak as a gobbler. Glue four grains of candy into the garniture of each oréo, pointed side, to create the turkey feathers.
