The Panthers' Riverboat head coach, Ron Rivera, is known for his bold decisions (some would say too aggressive) when it comes to end-of-game situations. His last attempt against the Detroit Lions last week did not go as planned as the Panthers lost 20-19 on the road.

Sunday's match could be another chance for Rivera to do something unpredictable. Will it help or hurt the Panthers?

No worries for the health of Cam Newton

In Sunday's loss to Detroit, the Panthers quarterback missed a few shots with a nasty ankle injury, but all indications are that he'll be fine for Sunday's game. If Newton had to come back down, the second quarter was Taylor Heinicke, who only made one pass against Detroit before Newton's return. If you're wondering who Heinicke is, he's a third-year pro from Old Dominion who has only made three career passes.

Winning by Seattle would be by key

Beating Carolina would give Seattle and the Panthers identical records of 6 to 5 and give the Seahawks another advantage in a race for a place with a wild card. In addition to Carolina, Seattle would have a competitive advantage over Detroit, Dallas and Green Bay.

The downside is that the Panthers would have a two-game advantage over Seattle (7-4 versus 5-6) and a face-to-face advantage.

Peppers, Olsen engage in history

Should he make two sacks on Sunday, Julius Peppers would overtake former Carolina Panthers star Kevin Greene for third place in the NFL's all-time sack list. Peppers, who has four sacks this year, ranks fourth with 158.5 sacks for his career. Greg Olsen needs 96 yards to beat Jackie Smith off the all-time list with a tight end. Olsen, who has been crippled by injuries, is tied for fourth at receptions this season for the Panthers with 24.

Panthers love to cook at home

Beat the Panthers is a daunting task, especially at home. The Panthers are tied with the New England Patriots for the longest streak of home wins in 10 games.

The 10-hour start was a problem for the Seahawks in the past (not so much in the days of Pete Carroll). And this season, Seattle has moved away from CenturyLink (3-3).
