JACKSON, MI – Before tasting their Thanksgiving turkeys, runners and walkers took to the streets of Jackson during the 14th edition of the Jackson YMCA Turkey Trot.
More than 900 runners took part in the 5 km and 10 km run and walk, which was preceded by a 800 km run for children.
Santa ran the children's race in a Chevrolet van before mingling with the runners before the start of their races.
Alec Briggs, of Jackson, was running under an American flag sweatshirt, under the top hat of Uncle Sam and carrying an American flag, for the fourth time with his YMCA family.
"It's just a fun way to stay healthy during Thanksgiving," Briggs said.
"I really went red, white and blue a few years ago," said Briggs, "last year my father was wearing this hat and I was like, let's go and let's do it Word on the street is that I will be in a turkey costume next year.
The course began and ended in front of the YMCA of Jackson, West Wesley Street.
Although many runners are from Jackson, some were in town for the holidays.
"My husband is from Jackson," said Emily Manzon of Kalamazoo. "So we have a Thanksgiving lunch with my in-laws, so I run a race so I can eat as much as I want."
"So I wanted to buy it a year ago, on Amazon, but it was $ 20," said Manzon about her turkey hat that she wore during the race. "So I started following him and I think I bought him back in June or July, when it was $ 8."

"I think after the second kilometer you have lost all sensation in your legs, so at that moment, you continue." said Briggs. "In all, at least it was not a blizzard."
