A record cold snap swept through the region during Thanksgiving, killing dozens of marine turtles in Cape Cod and plunging Mount Washington into cold record temperatures.
The National Weather Service said Thursday's cold weather made November 22 the coldest record ever in Providence, Hartford and Worcester.
Mercury plunged 11 degrees to Hartford, beating the previous record of 14 degrees established in 1969.
He also dropped to 15 degrees in Providence, beating the previous low Mark 16 degrees set in 1969 and matched in 1987; and Worcester recorded 7 degrees, beating the previous record of 11. In Maine, records were set for Portland and Augusta, where it dropped to 6 degrees and 4 degrees, respectively.
Before Thursday, Portland's lowest temperature at Thanksgiving was 7 degrees in 1978.
At 5 pm, Boston still had no record, but the lowest temperature for Thanksgiving and November 22 was 24 degrees, according to Lenore Correia, a meteorologist at Norton's National Weather Service.
The record 11 ° C Thanksgiving in Boston was set in 1873, said Correia. The record low for November 22 was 9 degrees in 1879.
The MBTA did not have any cold-related problems on Thursday, said Lisa Battiston, a spokeswoman for MBTA.
On the banks of Brewster's Cape Cod and Orleans, more than 150 sea turtles were found frozen on Wednesday and Thursday, after temperatures dropped to one overnight figure, said a naval expert.
The turtles, all but four of which were Kemp's turtles, were probably caught outside on the sand, making them more vulnerable to cold the temperaturessaid Jenette Kerr, spokeswoman for the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in Massachusetts, Audubon.
The brambles of Kemp are considered one of the most endangered sea turtles in the world, especially in the waters of Massachusetts, Kerr said.
Most of the 82 turtles that stranded Wednesday night after 10 pm High tide was found alive, Kerr said, but almost all of a group of 87 people found Thursday night did not survive.

Further north, weather observers from Mount Washington, New Hampshire, recorded temperatures below 26 degrees early in the morning. The wind chill factor caused by hurricane force winds gives a feeling of coolness of minus 75 degrees. Temperatures are at their lowest for the month of November at the summit, said Taylor Regan, weather observer and research specialist for the observatory.
The previous record for November 22 was minus 11 degrees, set in 1987, and the previous record for any November day was minus 20 degrees, which was established in 1958. The observatory began keeping temperature records in 1933, according to its website.
Compared to Thanksgiving Day, Friday should be much warmer, with temperatures reaching nearly 30 degrees and a low of 20 degrees at night, according to forecasters.
And although rain is expected this weekend, temperatures should reach near 45 degrees on Saturday and could reach 50 degrees Sunday – which is positively sweet after this cold Thanksgiving.
