A plane carrying 127 people skidded and fell to the side of a landing strip at an airport in Bolivia after appearing to collapse on its landing gear.

The Boeing 737 of the Peruvian airline landed at the airport of El Alto, west of the capital, La Paz, after arriving Thursday from Cuzco.

None of the 122 passengers or five crewmembers were injured, officials said.

The incident, which occurred around 10:00 am local time (14:00 GMT), forced the airport to close for several hours.

The fights were suspended and a crane was brought in to help move the aircraft off the runway after its landing gear was crushed and its tires burst.

No problems were reported during the flight and the captain did not warn that the aircraft approached the airport, passengers told local media. .

The cause of the accident is not yet known and an investigation is under way, Peruvian Airlines later said in a statement.
