DENVER (CBS4) – The first of two storms will have a lot of snow and wind for the mountains from the west until Friday.
The accumulation will be limited with this first storm, but a winter weather advisory was issued from 3pm Thursday west of Vail Pass for 3-6 ". Slightly higher amounts are expected in San Juans Mountain, particularly in the Telluride, Lake City and Ouray regions. Meanwhile, the areas of Summit County and Winter Park / Estes Park are expected to receive less than 4 inches of snow with this first storm.
The metropolitan area will remain completely dry until Friday, but the wind will become windy. Gusts could reach 40 mph in the metropolitan area from Thursday evening until Friday.
Our second storm is much stronger and could cause significant displacement problems in the highlands, including road closures. The storm will hit seriously late Friday night and will cause snow and wind in the mountains for much of Saturday. A winter storm watch has been issued for 6 to 12 inches of snow, but amounts can easily exceed one foot above the highest peaks and passes. Gusts of wind will exceed 50 mph.
It will be much cooler and still pretty windy on Saturday. The humidity should be limited, but we could have some cold little rain showers. That's right – the rain! For the moment, it is not cold enough to accumulate snow in Denver. There could be an inch or two along Palmer's division and in the foothills.
Anyway, we will be drying up all over the country for the big Sunday travel day. Expect cool temperatures during the Broncos game at Mile High. At the time of sending, we will be close to 40 °.
