One of the six charter buses carrying members of the Washington University fanfare to a soccer clash at Washington State University was overturned Thursday on Interstate 90, announced the Washington State Patrol.
The accident at 5:26 pm did not report serious injuries, said Private John Bryant at the Seattle Times. Forty to 45 students were treated for injuries that were neither serious nor life-threatening, Bryant said. The bus was carrying 56 people, he added.
Soldiers, paramedics and assistants from the Grant County Sheriff's Office responded to the accident, he said.
The accident occurred on I-90 eastbound, at station 146, about 5 km west of George in central Washington, Bryant said.
The road conditions were extremely slippery and icy in some places, the soldier told The Times.
The chartered buses were heading to the Apple Cup, scheduled for Friday in Pullman.
School officials tried to load students and equipment from the bus that crashed into the five other charter buses that travel together to continue their journey to Pullman, Bryant said.
Update, 9:40 pm: This story has been updated and corrected with new information provided by the Washington State Patrol regarding the number of students injured and the number of buses in the band's caravan.
