The house explodes on the east side of St. Paul; a person removed from the wreckage

Firefighters responded at the 600 block of Payne Avenue around 8:30 am A person who was inside the house was removed from the wreckage. Firefighters did not have immediate information on their condition.

A dog and a cat were also removed from the wreckage of the house. Firefighters said the two animals were reactive.

Debris was scattered at the intersection after the explosion. The windows were broken in a house on the other side of the street and eight residents of neighboring homes were moved.

Firefighters were still working on Friday morning to set fire to a burning gas pipe. The cause of the fire was still under investigation.

The neighbors said they heard a loud explosion on Friday morning.

"It looked like a bomb," said Ali Hussein, who lives on the other side of the street.
