A conservative writer and associate of Trump's confidant, Roger Stone, said Friday that he was in talks with the team's special advocate Robert Mueller.
Jerome Corsi told The Associated Press that he was negotiating a potential appeal but declined to comment further. He said during a show on YouTube last week that he was waiting to be accused of lying to federal investigators, although he said he was at home. that he was innocent.
The Mueller team interviewed Corsi as part of an investigation into Stone's relationship with WikiLeaks. US intelligence agencies have estimated that Russia was the source of pirated documents published by WikiLeaks in the 2016 elections that damaged Hillary Clinton's campaign. Mueller's office is trying to determine if Stone and other associates of President Donald Trump had prior knowledge of WikiLeaks' projects.
The Washington Post has for the first time reported on Corsi's plea bargain.
Corsi, the former head of the conspiracy theory bureau in Washington InfoWars, cooperated with the investigation for about two months, handing over two computers and a cell phone and providing the FBI with access to his email accounts and tweets.
But he added that the discussions with the investigators had recently "exploded".
"I fully believe that Mueller will be indicted in the coming days," he said last week, while he was attempting donations for his legal defense fund.
Stone, who also said he was ready to be indicted, denied being an intermediary for WikiLeaks, who published thousands of stolen emails to Clinton campaign president John Podesta in the weeks leading up to elections.
In a phone interview with the PA earlier this month, Stone said: "I had no prior notice regarding the source, content or timing of the publication of the WikiLeaks revelations."
He told AP in a separate statement on Friday: "It is clear from his recent videos and recent interviews that my friend Dr. Corsi has been under tremendous pressure and is starting to touch him deeply. stated publicly that he is invited over and over again to say things that he simply does not believe have occurred.
