London police said his tried-and-tested tactic of deterring violent "thieves" from their mopeds while they were fleeing contributed to the reduction of crime in the city.

Scotland Yard Friday released a video showing a team of specially trained drivers arresting suspects on their mopeds and motorcycles, claiming that offenders would be targeted "on every occasion".

"Offenders using mopeds and motorcycles attempting to evade police make a choice that puts themselves and others at risk," Commandant Amanda Pearson said in a statement. "Our message is clear: we can, we will, and we target those involved in moped and motorcycle crime on every occasion."

The video shows police chasing several suspects across London, repeatedly hitting them and knocking them off their bikes.

UNITED KINGDOM: INCREASING KNIFE CRIME AT THE LEVEL OF EPIDEMIC

According to Scotland Yard, crime related to mopeds and motorcycles decreased by 36% between January and October compared to the same period in 2017.

"Moped crimes can take place at any time of day and night," the authorities said. "Victims are often targeted when they leave subway stations or transport centers. Thieves also seize handbags, valuable watches and other items. "

Meanwhile, police across the UK are fighting a growing number of crimes related to the use of a knife.

In the first six months of the year, police recorded 39,332 criminal knife offenses, an increase of 12% over last year, according to the Office for National Statistics. Other violent crimes, including murder and robbery, also increased by double-digit percentages.
