Houston food manufacturer recalls pork rolls

HOUSTON (AP) – Authorities have discovered a listeriosis outbreak in several states that had hospitalized four people in a Houston-based Vietnamese food manufacturer.

The US Department of Agriculture has announced that Long Phung Food Products has issued a recall regarding seven types of pork rolls shipped across the country. They carry the number "EST 13561" inside the USDA inspection mark. All recalled rolls must be returned or discarded.

Four cases of listeriosis have been reported, including three since 1 September. Cases have been reported in Louisiana, Michigan, Texas and Tennessee. No deaths have been reported.

Listeria mainly affects pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. It can cause headaches, stiff neck, confusion and seizures, and in pregnant women can cause miscarriage, stillbirths at birth, premature births and other conditions potentially fatal for newborns.
