AMSTERDAM, Netherlands – The term "money laundering" has never been more appropriate than this week, when the Dutch police discovered about $ 400,000 stuffed into the drum of a washing machine.
A man in the house during the Monday raid was arrested for suspicion of – yes, you guessed it – money laundering.
The authorities were looking for unregistered residents in the west of Amsterdam when they found the cargo.
"The city administration revealed that no one was living at the address," CNN police said in a statement. "When the police searched the house, she found € 350,000 hidden in the washing machine."
Police also confiscated several cell phones, a firearm and a cash – counting machine during the raid. The suspect, aged 24, was not named.
The police press release contained a photo of bundles of 20 and 50 euro banknotes stacked in the washing machine.
They said in a statement that the raid was part of an investigation into "housing fraud, money laundering and other [signs] of crime. "
