The Chicago area will likely see some snow at the end of Thanksgiving weekend, while it was expected that a winter storm would sweep northern Illinois.

According to the National Weather Service, the early-season storm should start with a slight chance of light rain from Saturday to Sunday morning. The lows will hover around the mid-30s.

That could turn into a mix of rain and snow Sunday afternoon, the NWS announced. It was expected that the Chicago area would see up to three inches of snow, which "could be sometimes heavy". Gusts as fast as 30 miles to the hour could also arrive from the northeast.

Temperatures will likely remain in mid-30s to 30s on Sunday and will plunge in mid-twenties with "uneven" snow and "puff" at night, the NWS said. The winds could blow as fast as 35 mph and cause flooding along the southern shores of Lake Michigan.

Snowfall is expected to decrease after Monday at midnight, the NWS announced. The rest of the week was to have partly cloudy skies, but with mid-teen minimums the night between Monday and Wednesday. The snow can still fall in small quantities Thursday night.

The NWS warned of high displacement impacts on Sunday due to snow, which could lead to icy roads and reduced visibility.
