LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) – New Jersey health authorities have confirmed the spread of measles cases in a community in central New Jersey.
The latest confirmed cases bring the total to 15 in Ocean County.
According to officials, infected people may have exposed the disease to others while they were in Lakewood between October 25 and November 7. The state health department considers that there is a measles outbreak in the community.
One of the infected people may also have exposed people to Passaic to the disease between 17 and 18 November.
Anyone who thinks they may be exposed should contact a health care provider before going to a doctor's office or emergency department so that special arrangements can be made for an assessment. This also protects other people and medical staff from possible infection.
Measles is a very contagious disease. Symptoms include rash, high fever, coughing, runny nose and red, watery eyes.
