Following the report of an epidemic of fever of unknown origin in four local government areas of Edo State, the state public health team has opened an investigation.

On November 21, 2018, nine cases were positive for yellow fever. Confirmation results from the WHO Regional Reference Laboratory are pending.

The Edo State Epidemiology Team is working with NCDC, the National Agency for Primary Health Care Development (NPHCDA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to conduct a detailed survey on cases already confirmed.

NCDC has deployed a Rapid Response Team to help the state conduct active search, risk communication and case management. Plans are underway to launch a vaccination campaign in the state in response to the cluster of cases.

Since September 2017, Nigeria has registered suspected cases of yellow fever in all states of the country. As of 11 November, 140 cases had been laboratory confirmed in Nigeria.
