Union ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri will visit Pakistan next week for the opening ceremony of the Kartarpur Corridor, Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs, said Saturday in Islamabad .

Swaraj's response comes hours after Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi invited her to Pakistan to attend the ceremony on 28 November.

In a letter to Qureshi, Swaraj thanked his Pakistani counterpart for the invitation and indicated that she could not travel to Kartarpur Sahib because of previous engagements including an election campaign in Telangana and that the India would be represented at the ceremony by Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Puri.

"Conscious of the feelings of our Sikh citizens and the importance of facilitating their easy and unhindered access to Gurudwara Katarpur Sahib, we will send to Hasimrat Kaur Badal, Minister of Transformation and Food Industries, and Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Agriculture and Food. Swaraj also hoped that the Pakistani government would speed up the construction of the corridor to ensure that "our citizens can pay homage to Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib by using the corridor as soon as possible".

On Thursday, the two countries announced that they would develop the Katarpur corridor in their respective regions, connecting the Gurdaspur border district in India to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.

Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, the burial place of Guru Nanak Dev, founder of Sikhism, is located on the other side of the Ravi River in Pakistan, about four kilometers from the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district. in Punjab, India.

The corridor, once built, will give Indian pilgrims easy access to the sanctuary.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the opening ceremony of the corridor on November 28th.

In addition to Swaraj, Qureshi also invited Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and State Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu to the ceremony.

On Thursday, the Cabinet of the Union approved the proposal to create a corridor connecting Dera Baba Nanak in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab at the international border to allow Indian pilgrims to travel to Gurdara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.

As a result of the Cabinet decision, India urged Pakistan to build the corridor leading to Kartarpur Sahib on the Pakistani side. Later, Qureshi said that Islamabad had announced to India its decision to build the Kartarpur corridor.
