KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 25 – Auditor General Tan Sri Madinah Mohamad confirmed that the content of the initial audit report for the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal was falsified and altered.
This comes amid reports that Datuk Seri Najib Razak wanted his involvement and leaked broker Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, omitted from the report prepared by Tan Sri Ambrin Buang, then Auditor General.
In a statement, Madinah listed in chronological order whenever the report was changed. This began on February 20, 2016 when the former private secretary of former Najib Prime Minister, Tan Sri Shukry Hall, had asked the 1MDB audit team to prepare a final audit report on the public fund in difficulty.
Two days later, at a meeting with Najib and in the presence of former Secretary General Tan Sri Ali Hamsa and former Auditor General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang, the former Prime Minister had ordered the deletion of two paragraphs of the 2014 audit report financial statement and recommendations for a full investigation by the authorities on 1MDB.
As a result, the audit report to be presented to the Public Accounts Committee on February 24, 2016 was postponed until March 4 and 7 of the same year.
On February 23, 2016, at a meeting at the Secretary General's office attended by Ali, Shukry and Ambrin, the 1MDB audit team was informed that the government had filed the report of 39; 1MDB final audit as a "crisis". The next day, at another meeting, but this time with Arul Kanda Kandasamy, CEO of 1MDB, as well as representatives from the Attorney General's Office and the Ministry of Finance, it was decided to delete and amend a few paragraphs of the report.
On February 25, the former secretary general asked the audit team to attend a meeting in his offices with Najib and Arul in order to "continue" the discussions on the report. final audit in which more reported results were to be cleared. The next day, Shukry asked a paragraph detailing Low's presence at a 1MDB board meeting, to delete from the audit report.
Shukry said then that it was done so that the federal opposition does not "exploit" the facts to solve a more delicate problem. On February 28, 2016, Shukry requested that the amended version of the 1MDB audit report be provided. The next day, the final report was given to the former chief secretary.
On March 1, the former Secretary General tasked the 1MDB audit team to meet again at his office to review the final modified version of the report. This time, only he and Arul, from 1MDB, went through the report, page after page, with the audit team.
Other changes were then made.
On March 2, the final version of the 1MDB audit report was printed and the next day two copies were delivered to Shukry and Ali. On March 4 and 7, Ambrin tabled the final report to the PAC.
"On November 23, 2018, I informed Cabinet of these amendments to the 1MDB Final Audit Report before it was finalized and presented to the PAC on March 4, 2016," Madinah said in a statement. a statement, adding that the cabinet had asked him to come out with an official statement on the issue.
Last month, Ambrin insisted that no one had falsified him because he had the authority to do so.
This occurs when Najib repeatedly asserted that his relations with Low were strictly professional and had been forged in the economic interest of the country.
The former prime minister also criticized Goldman Sachs, a US investment bank, for failing to preserve Malaysia's interests by not warning his government of Low's efforts to defraud the Malaysian investment company.
