Candidates for the 2019 presidential race weighed in on Australia's recent decision to move its Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, with each side on both sides of the argument.
The presidential candidate, Ma'ruf Amin, condemned the decision, saying that Indonesia and its people had officially rejected and protested Israel's plan to move its capital to Jerusalem.

On the other hand, presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto said that Indonesia must respect Australia's decision. Party President Gerindra made the statement during a conversation with journalists on the sidelines of the Indonesian Economic Forum in Jakarta on Wednesday.
"Regarding their plan to move their embassy [in Israel]I have not yet understood why Australia does it. As a supporter of Palestine, we have our opinions. Australia being an independent and sovereign country, we must respect its sovereignty, "said Prabowo, quoted by tempo.co.
Last month, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he was open to proposals to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to move his country's embassy to the holy city.
