The Sunday earthquake in the west of the country had a depth of about 6 miles, the US Geological Survey announced.

Buildings were damaged in various rural areas of Sarpol-e-zahab and Qasr-e-Shirin, causing the walls of some houses to fall, Fars said.

Tremors could be felt as far as Baghdad. Social media users in the Iraqi capital have uploaded videos of furniture and chandeliers.

The quake occurred about 20 km from Sarpol Zahab in Kermanshah province, the USGS announced.

Iran is sitting on a major fault line between the Arab and Eurasian plates and has experienced many earthquakes.
