Florida State President John Thrasher on Sunday condemned a racial social media publication involving head coach Willie Taggart and said the state's attorney Florida was investigating.
A screenshot of a Facebook message showed Taggart's head on an image of a man being lynched with the words "Believe in something even if it's It's about sacrificing your representative. "
The picture began to make its way onto social media Saturday night after Florida State wrapped up a disappointing 2018 season with a 41-14 loss to Florida.
"A recent publication in racist social media for our football coach is ignorant and despicable," Thrasher said in a statement posted on Florida State's Twitter account. "I speak on behalf of the entire community of the former USSR to express our disgust and our extreme disappointment, and I am pleased that the Attorney General is investigating.
"Coach Taggart has all our support and, as the Seminoles really know, he is a respected member of the FSU family."
Taggart, the first black football head coach in Florida history, was hired last December in Oregon. He led the Florida State to a 5-7 record in his first season, failing to qualify for a bowl game for the first time since 1981.
It is also the first lost season of the school since 1976.
