Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, co-hosts of "Morning Joe," were married Saturday in the National Archives rotunda in Washington, DC.

Scarborough and Brzezinski got engaged last May in a hotel in Antibes, France, and have remained relatively confidential since, even as "Saturday Night Live" made fun of the hosts of the morning show by imagining sexual tensions between them.

"We wanted it to be really small and simple and not what you expected from Mika and Joe," Brzezinski told Vanity Fair about the wedding. "Everything we do is exposed, and everything felt exposed at every stage of the process, so we want it to be private until it's over."

The couple decided that the holiday weekend – when the city was almost deserted – was the perfect time to build relationships. They did not send invitations, preferring to call the family and friends they wanted.

Among the guests were four of the couple's closest friends, Brzezinski's mother and the couple's six children from previous marriages. Representative Elijah Cummings (D-MD) chaired the ceremony that was co-written by Scarborough. It would be the first time that the national archives, which house the constitution and the declaration of independence, were used for a wedding.

Emily Jane Fox of Vanity Fair asked her if she would change her name. Brzezinski replied "Yes.
