Elected New Republican Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez compared Sunday members of the caravan of migrants trying to enter the United States and Jews fleeing Nazi Germany during the Holocaust.
Members of the caravan crossed the border on Sunday at the entrance port of San Ysidro, which connects Tijuana (Mexico) and San Diego (California).

The US Customs and Border Patrol closed the entry point in response and reportedly used tear gas to disperse the crowd of migrants.
Ocasio-Cortez has addressed Twitter to denounce the treatment of members of the caravan. (RELATED: Tijuana's angry residents oppose the migrant caravan: "It's an invasion")
"Asking to be considered a refugee and seeking refugee status is not a crime," she wrote.
"It was not for Jewish families fleeing Germany. It was not for targeted families fleeing Rwanda. It was not for communities fleeing a war-torn Syria. And this is not the case for those fleeing violence in Central America, "she added.
Some members of the caravan reportedly threw stones at US authorities before using tear gas.
