(KGTV) – Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said the department would not hesitate to close borders for security reasons while the migrant caravan was aggressively opposing to enter in the United States from Mexico.
A large number of migrants attempted to cross the fence and sought to injure CBP personnel by throwing projectiles at them, according to Nielsen.
"DHS will not tolerate this type of anarchy and will not hesitate to close access points for security reasons. We will strive to maximize the prosecution of anyone who destroys federal property, endangers our front-line operators or violates our sovereignty, "Nielsen wrote.

In a series of tweets, Nielsen said that there was a "solid presence" along the southwestern border, made up of customs and border protection officials, the Department of Homeland Security and responsible for law enforcement at the federal, regional and local levels.
"We remain in close contact with the Mexican authorities and we are determined to resolve this situation safely together with them," Nielsen wrote.

Nielsen visited Border Field State Park earlier in the month to see added reinforcements along the Mexican border.
Although a Politico report states that troops sent to the border would be sent home on December 15, Nielsen said that DHS and the Ministry of Defense would continue their work at the border "until the problem is solved. "
