If you are shopping online on Mondays, be sure to look for free delivery charges and send your boxes directly to their final destination so as to avoid lugging extra items during your vacation trips.
WASHINGTON – It is highly likely that when you check your mail on Monday morning, your emails will be filled with Cyber Monday offers.
If you want to take advantage of online promotions, the Fairfax County Consumer Business told you to shop smart.
Here are some tips:
- Keep a record: Print and save all your purchase confirmations to facilitate the return or exchange of items. You can also use your file to check credit card or bank statements.
- Find promo codes: Search for websites dedicated to finding and sharing coupon codes. You can simply find a deal – free shipping, free merchandise, a percentage of your order – to sweeten the pot.
- Shop on sites offering free shipping: Many, but not all, stores offer free delivery on Monday afternoons, so spend some time looking for these offers.
- Ship the gifts directly to the recipientMost online retailers can ship items to a different location than your billing address. During the holidays, when many people travel, take advantage of this feature by sending gifts before your arrival. Some companies may even ship parts of the same order to multiple locations for not having to lug holiday gifts across the country.
- Protect your information online: Use reputable websites and stores. Only visit secure sites. They must display "HTTPS:" (the "s" means secure) in your browser bar.
- Gift cards: Buy only from reputable retailers, not via online auction sites. Gift cards sold at online auction sites may be counterfeit or may have been obtained illegally.
