In the Gateway's Twitter feed, a bridge staff member described this emergency as closing several hours of a "nightmare of traffic, it's the least that can be said" .
The bridge authorities said by Twitter that the two spans of the bridge, a key link to the East Coast Road, had been shut down following a chemical gas leak in a Delaware plant adjacent to the span North.

Philadelphia reporters said the leak involved ethylene oxide. The gas has been described as highly flammable. It was reported in late Sunday night newspapers as being completely content.
