Another morning of southeast winds, the lingering effect of Friday's full moon and Saturday's storm runoff will cause a wave of flooding on the coast on Monday. Water levels will be high enough during the flood phase to include a Coastal Flood Notice from the National Weather Service.
The Coastal Flood Notice, in effect from 8 am to 2 pm, covers all counties south of Jersey, including Delaware Bay.
A Coastal Flood Notice will be in effect from 8:00 to 14:00. Monday in shaded counties in green.
High tides will be between 9 am and 11 am on the Atlantic coast and the rear bays. Delaware Bay will reach its peak later between 10 and 12 o'clock.
A minor flood phase will be expected during this period. In short, if you saw water on Sunday morning, you will see it again on Monday morning. Houses, businesses and other buildings will be safe. However, in the minor flood phase, the first block or two of the roads bordering the bay will have water all the way down. In sensitive areas (Atlantic City, Ventnor, North Wildwood, etc.), you can see water a few blocks inland. Road closures will be unlikely for most of them, with only isolated areas completely blocked. Remember, turn around, do not drown.
The wave height off the coast will be 3 to 5 feet. The water will rush into the dunes along the ocean. However, no structural damage will be likely.
Here is an anticipated list of impacts, by county.
Floods in Bayshore begin at Harvey Cedars. Watch for water near the Highway 72 bridge.
Water will be possible at Beach Haven West, Eagleswood and Mystic Islands. South Green Street in Tuckerton could also have problems.
The floods begin at the north end of Brigantine. Margate can also begin to be flooded. Atlantic City and Ventnor can anticipate flooding inland in some places.
The connection between shore and mainland begins flooding on White Horse Pike between Absecon and Atlantic City and Black Horse Pike between Atlantic City and Egg Harbor Township. The Longport – Somers Point Bridge will also begin to see water.
On the mainland, Bay Avenue in Somers Point, as well as Absecon will also have water on the roads.
In Ocean City, the floods begin between the 24th and 55th streets. Floods also begin on Ocean Drive between Ocean City and Strathmere.
Near the bridges, access roads to 9th Street and the 34th Bridges leading to Ocean City begin to be flooded. The bridge between Ocean City and Longport will begin to have problems. Farther south, access roads to Ocean Drive (Cape May and Wildwood Crest) and Learning Avenue – Elmira Street (West Cape May and Cape May) will also see water.
The problems will be limited. Just anticipate the water along the water in the communities of the bay. Road closures will be unlikely.
The second storm of South Jersey in 3 days will pass. The chance of rain will start at 7am. However, most of the rain will arrive in the afternoon. While it will only rain from 0.50 to 1.00, Saturday's extremely abundant rains have kept water courses and creeks at high altitude. As a result, Monday's rain will aggravate the problems. Flood monitoring will be in effect from 10 am to Monday evening to cover this threat.
No coastal flood will be expected for the rest of the week, as strong northwesterly winds blow.
