Bareilly: 53,352 children were vaccinated in the Bareilly district on Monday, the first day of the campaign against measles and rubella. According to the authorities, children enrolled in 257 schools were vaccinated. The health department has set a total immunization target of 17.10 lakh children in the district.

The Minister of State for Labor and Employment, Santosh Gangwar, inaugurated the campaign in Bareilly.

Dr. Vineet Shukla, chief medical officer, said: "All children aged 9 months to 15 years old should be vaccinated during this campaign. We targeted 5,800 public and private schools and madrassas during the first phase. The staff of these educational institutions gives us their full support. We will cover all schoolchildren in the next 15 days. We will organize a free fundraiser in anganwadi centers, public and private hospitals to vaccinate free children who do not go to school. "

Rubella, also known as German measles, is spread by the rubella virus. Experts say that if a pregnant woman is infected with the rubella virus, it can lead to miscarriage or severe birth defects.
