Andy Benoit and Gary Gramling analyzed the fight in Buffalo, the revenge of Josh Allen and the victory of the Bills on the Jaguars.
GARY: Let's go to Jaguars-Bills. We had a fight in this game. Leonard Fournette should not be shooting anyway because the Jaguars need him, but he should not hit a guy wearing a helmet when you're not wearing a helmet. . It's a double idea.
ANDY: I think it's a man. A man who drops his team in critical time, no less. It takes even more manhood. Get ejected for fighting a lower-than-average defensive lineman when you're the star back. I think it's really being a man.
GARY: Comeuppance came so quickly about it. They were the first on the six-inch line. The false start may have happened if Fournette was in the backfield anyway, but they ran away so quickly with two penalties and missed a 42-yard placement. The Bills just took the ball and Josh Allen needed the three-game drive to score. It turned so fast.
Fournette must be better than that, yes. I will say, Josh Allen, that he is incredibly green and that he is surrounded by a not-so-good cast, but he has made some spectacular pieces in this one. I still can not believe this touchdown throw to Robert Foster because he was swallowed by three guys as he dropped the ball.
ANDY: A 75-yard touchdown under severe restraint, knowing that the shot is imminent, releasing the ball when the shot is imminent and he throws a big spiral. If we only isolate the arm and remove the legs, it's probably the best pitch we've seen all season.
GARY: It was amazing and it was just shocking to see the broadcast angle because it looked like a bag. He had three black jerseys draped over him, converging on him, and suddenly the ball came out of there. You would have thought it was a kind of CGI glitch.
I will say this about Josh Allen, because many bills talk about "Oh, Patrick Mahomes, we could have had Mahomes". And yes, the bills should have taken Patrick Mahomes, Everybody should have taken Pat Mahomes and should be kicking himself on this. I'm not about to say that Allen is in the same class as Mahomes, but I'll say, Josh Allen wins games like Robert Foster, Jason Croom and Isaiah McKenzie.
ANDY: He won a He won this game. Josh Allen has been out for several weeks and was very shaken before this injury.
GARY: He won a match in Minnesota, Andy. It's a victory.
ANDY: You know what really impressed me in this game, and I was surprised it was not a bigger factor earlier this season, it's Josh Allen can really run. His mobility is an asset. I think he's in Cam Newton's class for his talent … I think he's in the class. I think Cam Newton is sitting at the front of the classroom. Josh Allen is probably sitting in the middle of the rows, maybe in the back, but he's in this little classroom with Cam Newton. The reason I'm talking about Newton is that Allen can do it as a power runner. He weighs 245 pounds, but there is a load behind his movement. He has a lot of trouble, which he will do because he does not always see things clearly, but I thought the difficulties were mostly appropriate. There were some tracks designed with him. He had a touchdown in the quarter. Reading options have not worked out, but I love the concept. I like that they use it this way. They must use Josh Allen almost in the same way that the Panthers use Cam Newton. It's a diluted version, because it will take Allen a few years to do this kind of offensive offensive, but that's the way it should be. Josh Allen is the next Cam Newton if everything goes well.
GARY: I said that so much last spring and I took so much shit for that. That's the last thing I'm going to say about this game. The Jaguars are not going anywhere even though they won this game, but Andrew Norwell came out in this one so they're eliminated on the offensive line. I do not know what they can do offensively to get going. It was a lost season and now it's a really lost season.
ANDY: A note on this offensive line because she absolutely humiliated the Bills in the first half of this game. They moved the line of scrimmage and ran between the tacklers for 10-12 yards at the slightest jolt and yet they lost the game. They did the same thing last week against Pittsburgh. What I'm learning from Jacksonville is that I think your running game is as good as the passing game that comes with it. If you just hit the ball in the other team's throat, that's fine, but it's not going to win the game for you in 60 minutes in today's NFL. You must have a passing game that relates to your race and must be effective. Jacksonville has that, but it has not been effective.
