Trump proposes a new network to compete with CNN: "We must do something"

President Donald Trump proposed Monday afternoon the creation of a new US-funded television network to compete with CNN on a global scale.

"Although CNN does not perform well in the US according to the rankings, they have very little competition outside of the United States," says Trump. tweeted. "Around the world, CNN has a powerful voice that portrays the US unfairly … and false. Something needs to be done, including the opportunity for the United States to create their own global network to show the world what we really are, GREAT!

The president had a heated relationship with the network and recently canceled the press card from CNN chief correspondent Jim Acosta. A federal judge later ruled in favor of the network after CNN commenced federal litigation. Acosta has since regained access to the White House.

Acosta's press card was suspended earlier this month after he engaged in a controversial back-and-forth with President Trump during a press conference. Acosta refused to pass the microphone to an employee of the White House and the two men had brief contact. Later in the day, the White House revoked Mr. Acosta's powers.

CNN then filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, demanding that the White House restore the press reporter's press card, a proposal from White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, described as "more than prestige by CNN ".
