New York Mets hired former Reds and Reds director and four-time National League captain Jim Riggleman like their bench coach.
Mickey Callaway seemed to lack the BN's experience for a new director in a new league as the bench coach 2018 Gary Disarcina Simply could not bring. The Mets should benefit greatly from Riggleman's insight.
Riggleman, 66, was at the helm of Washington from 2009 to 75 games since the start of the 2011 season, when he resigned. He joined the Reds as a third base coach in 2015, eventually replacing the manager. Bryan Price in April of this season on an interim basis.
In a press release, Callaway said, "I'm delighted to have Jim's knowledge at my side. He will be a great resource for me and for all coaching staff. (James Wagner of New York Times)
Mets Executive Director Brodie Van Wagenen also praised Riggleman (Anthony DiComo, MLB.com), adding that "his knowledge of the National League would be a valuable asset".
Riggleman has a record of 726-904 in 13 years as MLB manager, and all but one are part of the National League (2008 Mariners) teams.
