There may be a baby panda on the way!
On Sunday, the national zoo announced that the giant panda Mei Xiang is showing signs of pregnancy, such as building a nest in its den, losing appetite, sleeping more and reacting to loud noises.
In preparation, the Zoo will close the giant panda habitat of the David M. Rubenstein family to give Mei Xiang a quiet Sunday.

The Zoo warns that pandas may have pseudo-pregnancies, where they exhibit behaviors that they would normally have if they were pregnant. The only desire to know for sure is if Mei Xiang's hormone levels, the level of energy and his behaviors return to normal.
In the meantime, you can cross your fingers for another black and white friend at the zoo and keep an eye on the Panda Cam!
The outdoor habitats and the observation areas will not be affected and the zoo indicates that the best time to watch Bei Bei and Tian Tian is in the morning between 8:00 and 10:00.
Bei Bei was the last panda born at the Zoo in 2015. He will be, like Bao Bao before him, taken to China at the age of four.
