Speaking in his post-match press conference (via ESPN), Cissé said: "Of course we have regrets.
"We must admit that we have not seen a great Senegalese performance tonight compared to the match against Poland. We were not very good frankly, and Japan was the best team, I have to admit. But despite this, we have led twice and what is boring, these are the two goals we have conceded.
"We pressed them in the first place and made some mistakes, which we exploited, but as soon as they gave them a bit of space, it became difficult for us.
"Now we have to hope for the best when we face Colombia."
The result leaves Senegal and Japan with four points, while Group H rivals Colombia after beating Poland 3-0 in the final match of the day.
While Senegal remain in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages, a win would have assured Cisse its place in the round of 16 and they will surely see this result as a missed opportunity given the dominance they have exercised during the first day. half.
Senegal won a surprise 2-1 win over Poland in their first match, receiving praise for their level of organization and tactical discipline throughout the match. However, their defense was at fault during the match, and Cissé was clearly unhappy with both goals conceded by his team.
