The president's tweet comes after Sanders confirmed this weekend that the owner of a restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, had asked her to leave while she was dining with a group of people.
"Last night, the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia, told me to leave because I work for @POTUS and I left politely. Her actions tell a lot more about her than about me, "Sanders wrote Saturday on Twitter.
"I always do my best to treat people, including those with whom I do not agree, respectfully and I will continue to do so," she added.
The restaurant owner, Stephanie Wilkinson, told the Washington Post that she had directly asked Sanders to leave the establishment.
"I explained that the restaurant has certain standards that I think it must respect, such as honesty, compassion and cooperation," Wilkinson told the Post.
Wilkinson said Sanders quickly agreed to leave.
