The Academy of Arts and Sciences of Cinema announced the creation of a record number of 928 new members in an increased effort for diversity.
The industry professionals included in the last batch of guests are 49% women and 38% people of color. The new names include Daniel Kaluuya, who received an Oscar nomination for his role in Get Out, Tiffany Haddish Girls Girls, I Feel Pretty's Amy Schumer, Star Wars Story's Emilia Clarke and Moonlight's André Holland and Trevante Rhodes. Last year, 774 members were invited, a record at the time, with a new batch of nearly 20% this year.
