The black astronaut Jeanette Epps has not received the reason for her withdrawal from the mission of the International Space Station

In January, while NASA astronaut Jeanette Epps was going to make history as the first long-term black astronaut aboard the International Space Station, her mission was abruptly canceled. Epps revealed that she still has not received any reason as to why she was removed from the mission.

Her family members believe that her skin color may have played a role in the decision.

In a recent interview with the Houston Chronicle, Epps revealed that she thought that someone from NASA and not Roscosmos had made the decision to remove her from the ISS mission. Roscosmos is the Russian space agency, NASA sends its astronauts on Roscosmos shuttles to the ISS. Epps says she was not informed of the decision to remove her from the June 6th mission.

Epps says that she does not know how the decision was made or where she comes from to remove her from the mission. She said that she had been training with the Russians in preparation for the mission and had good working relationships with them. Epps says the Russians have defended it because it was dangerous to remove someone from a trained crew for years.

In his announcement about Epps removed from the mission, NASA gave no reason to explain what had happened. Instead, NASA said it was a decision that took into account a number of factors. He stated that it was a matter of staff for which he did not provide any information.

This would have been Epp's first flight into orbit, but she was assigned to NASA's Johnson Space Center astronaut office in Houston. NASA stated that it was possible that it could still be assigned to future space missions.

Family Cites Discrimination

Epp's brother, Henry Epps, went on Facebook to express his views on NASA's decision to remove his sister from the ISS mission. In a post on Facebook, he accused the racism and misogyny of the space program of being removed from the mission. He says that this can be seen by the white astronaut who was chosen to replace her in the mission. Henry Epps removed the post shortly after it was posted on Facebook.

He also linked to a MoveOn.org petition that asked NASA to reinstate his sister in the mission. Jeanette Epps did not want to comment on the nature of her brother's comments and said that she had not started the petition. She added that she had no health or family problem that prevented her from going into space. NASA has declared that diversity is an integral part of its missions and that astronauts are diversified.
