CHICAGO – The post Facebook of a Lincoln Park bar announcing a new dress code banishing facial tattoos and the iconic hats "Make America Great Again" of President Donald Trump in order to maintain a "chic environment" quickly became viral after its publication on Saturday.
"No tattoos on the face, no specific hats, please see below," said the post. "Stay chic Chicago."
The Facebook post on the Replay Lincoln Park page included a photo of a man with a tattoo on his face and a picture of a red MAGA hat.
The bright red hats were made popular during Trump's presidential campaign. A barrage of comments followed the post, both from Trump supporters questioning the bar's decision and others offering support.
Responding to commentators on Facebook, the bar said, "Ok ok all the face tattoos are ok, just no very specific hats." In response to another speaker, the bar posted a comment saying, "Okay, they can enter but they will have to pay to play the games. Free speech but for a price. "
"We have had many more interactions here on Facebook since we decided to ban MAGA hats and we do not know how to deal with them," said the bar in a later post.
The bar owner stated that he was not planning to retract his statement on Facebook about the dress code. However, he said that if anyone came to his bar with a MAGA hat, he would probably not put him out the door. Instead, he would engage them in a conversation.
