Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Jen Harley quarreled before being arrested for domestic use Sunday night.
A source tells PEOPLE Jersey Shore Star and his ex first had a "verbal fight" at a barbecue with friends that day. According to the source, they left with their 12-week-old daughter at the back of the car. On the way back, "the fight escalated" and Harley "hit his face," says the source.
"He was screaming for her to stop the car while she was driving," says the source. "She hit the median and had a puncture that made her slow down." He begged to go out and opened the door but she kept walking away while he was going out and he was tore his whole arm.It is a road-busting mess and be dragged into the street as he was caught on the belt. According to the source, "someone on the road saw this happen and called the police."

The source said it was "100% intentional" and Harley "was beating [Ortiz-Magro] in place. "
"She was not drinking at the party while she was driving, so she was sober," adds the source.

MTV had no comments when it was joined by PEOPLE. An Ortiz-Magro representative made no comments when he was joined by PEOPLE; Harley could not be reached.
According to the source, a common friend took care of the ex girlfriend while Harley was being arrested, noting that "everyone is so scared for this baby".
According to the source, Ortiz-Magro, 32, had "done his best" to make things work with Harley for the good of their daughter.
"If the child was not involved, it would be over," says the source. "He's constantly trying to make it work for the sake of his daughter, but we hope it's the last drop and that he will not put his daughter and himself in danger."
"It's not perfect, but it's the aggressor in this relationship," the source adds. "It's obvious with his pattern of behavior."

The Clark County Detention Center on Tuesday confirmed to people that Harley had posted a link and is no longer under their care. It's not immediately clear what time she was released.
The exes welcomed their first child together, their daughter Ariana Sky, on April 3 and made headlines for their explosive altercations. Earlier this month, the cops were called when they quarreled at Planet Hollywood while Ortiz-Magro was shooting season 2 of Jersey Shore Family Vacations.
