BRUNSWICK, Ga. – A suspended Glynn County police lieutenant died after a SWAT showdown on Thursday night in front of his Brunswick home following a slow pursuit of McIntosh County that began after a double shot more early in the evening, according to Georgian police authorities.
Glynn County Police said that Robert "Corey" Sasser was found dead in his van a few hours after the SWAT team fired tear gas at the vehicle to get him out of the car. Hunter's Point.
Police believe that Sasser was involved in a shootout Thursday night in McIntosh County that left a man and a woman dead, and said the victim had exchanged shots with the gunman. "I noticed that the shots did not look like those of an ordinary rifle, being a hunter that I am, they looked more like tear gas," Harley Rich said. "A lot of bustle, a lot of things happening here."
The Glynn County Police will hold a joint press conference on 9 am with the McIntosh County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to provide details on what's going on. has passed in the last 12 hours.
Standoff in May
This was the second SWAT confrontation with Sasser in just over a month.
In May, Sasser and Georgia SWAT had a stalemate that ended in a forested area off Highway 99. He was captured and taken to the hospital.
