The Yankees and the Red Sox, unsurprisingly, have shared their first six games against each other this season and entered Friday at just one game in the AL – East standings, looking very much like teams that will take the divisional race.
But at the opening of the series Friday at the stadium, the Yankees did their best to show their superiority
of CC Sabathia's outstanding performance to the success of Gleyber Torres' rookie tandem and Miguel Andujar. The Yankees dominated from start to finish in a 8-1 win.
The win brought the Yankees tied at the top of the division, though they lead to the winning percentage.
"Whenever these two franchises meet, it's usually a big deal," Aaron Boone said before the game. "But I think [good] as the first half was for both clubs, I think it will be a good environment.I know that there has been a lot of talk about it."
Sabathia and the offensive is ensured.
The southpaw delivered one of his best performances of the season, holding one of the best teams in the majors at a seven-run run , scoring five, Andujar and Bird both dominated Eduardo Rodriguez (9-3) in the fourth inning four times
Sabathia (5-3) doubled Steve Pearce's double in the second period, allowed Xander Bogaerts to fly, Eduardo Nunez to go out and Rafael Devers to line up in the center to keep the game aimless.
Torres opened the bottom of the sleeve with a dazzling triple from the wall in the center, just beating the throw of Jackie Bradley Jr.
Andujar followed by the fall of a shallow center in order to give a 1-0 lead to the Yankees.

The Yankees added to their lead in the fourth.
Giancarlo Stanton led a walk – his second of the game – and moved to third on Didi Gregorius's double right center to raise Torres.
The rookie second-baseman led Stanton with a fly sacrifice to Ake 2: 0.
Andujar then completed a two-run homer and the Yankees started to move away, like Bird followed with his first tour since June 13th.
The Red Sox had a comeback from Sabathia in the Fifth with two consecutive doubles by Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi.
Just when it seemed that Boston could return in the match, Sabathia faced JD Martinez for the third time after withdrawing twice the designated hitter, Sabathia fell But he recovered for Martinez to jump right for finish the round without further damage.
This was the sixth consecutive start at which Sabathia did not give up more than three earned runs.
The night was much worse for Rodriguez, who threw five scoreless innings in a win against the Yankees in May, but got very different results on Friday. He allowed five runs in six sets before Justin Haley took the lead early in the seventh.
Aaron Judge scored a two-point shot on Haley to put the score at 7-1. It was the 21st Judge Circuit of the year. Bird's second circuit came in eighth. He had only hit three homers throughout the season before Friday.
