Trump comments en route to his golf club in Bedminster, NJ, for the weekend came after Vanity Fair reported Friday that Hicks was discussed as a possible replacement for the White House Chief of Staff John Kelly John Francis KellyMORE .
Hicks, who resigned as Director of Communications of the White House in February. There are several names that have been launched for the job and she told people that she would be interested in the work if it were offered to her, reported Vanity Fair.
The outlet noted however that Hicks said she would not continue the role.
The report follows a Thursday Wall Street Journal article stating that Kelly is expected to leave his post in the Trump administration at the end of July.
Kelly could leave his post as early as this week or after Trump returns from a planned trip to Europe next month, the newspaper reported.
The White House denied this report Thursday.
"I spoke to the president who refuted this article." White House spokesman Lindsay Walters told reporters: "Trump denied Friday that he and Kelly had a tense relationship, despite recent reports indicating that the Chief of Staff has "We have a very good relationship, it is a wonderful man, John Kelly, a wonderful man, 4 stars, do not forget that it's a big change for him.This has not been an easy change for him.We have a very, very good relationship, "Trump told reporters.

Hicks was one of Trump's oldest and closest assistants before leaving the White House earlier this year. She previously worked for the Trump organization before joining Trump's campaign when he launched it in 2015.
