New algorithm that can predict your intelligence

New York, June 30 (IANS) Be careful if you lie about your IQ because the researchers have developed a machine learning algorithm that can tell you how smart you are by looking at a scintigraphy of your brain.

The fMRI Develops a map of brain activity by detecting changes in blood flow to specific brain regions. "We have discovered that if we let people lie in the scanner and do nothing while we measure the pattern of brain activity, we can use the data to predict their intelligence," said coauthor Ralph Adolphs from the California Institute of Technology. (Caltech).

To train their algorithm on complex models of activity in the human brain, researchers downloaded brain scans and intelligence scores of nearly 900 individuals.

The researchers found that after the process The information obtained from brain measurements can be used to explain about 20% of the variance of intelligence that we observed in the data . To predict the intelligence of brain scans, the algorithm is doing something that humans can not do because even an experienced neuroscientist can not look at a brain scan and say how intelligent a brain is. The researchers also conducted a parallel study, using the same test population and approach, which attempted to predict the personality traits of fMRI brain scans.

The personality test used divides the personality into five scales: openness to experience, consciousness, extroversion, amenity, neuroticism.

However, it has proved much harder to predict personality.

The two studies are yet to be published in the separate journals Personality Neuroscience and Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society
