A large white shark has been spotted in the waters off the Balearic Islands in Spain, which is the first sighting of this kind by scientists for at least 30 years, said Saturday a marine conservation group.
The Alnitak group on Thursday captured images of the shark, which was five meters in length, in the seas off the island of Cabrera and followed it for over an hour on his Facebook page.
"In recent years, there have been unconfirmed observations and various rumors, but this is the first scientific check of the presence of a Carcharodon in Spanish waters since at least 30 years, "he writes.
Alnitak said the shark was spotted while scientists were on a mission to get information on sea turtles, sperm whales, dolphins, manta rays and bluefin tuna.
The team is also looking for tiny plastic debris in the sea.
