The explosion occurred shortly after 9 am Saturday in the waters off the island of Barraterre in Exuma Cayes, police said in a statement.

Chester Cooper, a deputy from Exumas and Ragged Island, identified the person who died as an American woman.

Four Americans were flown to a hospital in Florida, the US Coast Guard Southeast announced.
